The photos on this page are scans made from contact sheets, so the quality is poor. The 1999 photos of Armenia were taken with a Canon FTb and 50mm lens on Kodak T⁠-⁠Max 400 film, the other photos are made with a Minolta XE⁠-⁠1 and 35mm or 50mm lens on Kodak Tri⁠-⁠X film.
ARMENIA 1999
These photos were taken during a visit to Armenia in October 1999. Armenia gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 after 70 years of Soviet rule, which left the country in a deplorable state.
NORADUZ CEMETERY
Noraduz cemetery is a medieval cemetery in the village of Noraduz, 80 km northeast of Armenia's capitol Yerevan.
The cemetery has the largest cluster of Armenian khachkars (cross stones) in Armenia, with khachkars from the 10th to the 17th century. Each khachkar has its own unique pattern, none are the same.
TOKHMAKH CEMETERY, YEREVAN
Tokhmakh is Yerevan's largest cemetery, named after Mohammad Khan Tokhmaq, governor of the Erivan Province from 1568 to 1575 and 1578 to 1583, when Yerevan was lost from Persia to the Ottoman Empire.
